For Preston Greer, the journey to owning a 2024 RTR Mustang was unexpected. Originally set on building a 1000hp F150, he had a change of heart when his truck order was delayed, and he spotted something special on a dealer’s lot.
Q: What led you to the RTR Mustang instead of your original 1000hp F150 build?
Preston: I was all set on the F150, but my 2024 order got delayed. Then, I saw the first production 2024 RTR Mustang available to the public sitting at the dealership, and it just clicked. I went from a truck build to a Mustang build, and honestly, I don’t regret it.
With the decision made, Preston’s attention quickly turned to modifications. The Mustang came with the RTR Spec 2 kit—complete with a body kit and suspension—but that was just the beginning for him.

Q: Can you tell us about the modifications you’ve made so far?
Preston: Sure! I added a Whipple Stage 1 kit and tune, but I got bored of that power level fast. So, I focused on getting all the supporting mods in place: driveshaft upgrades, a differential cradle, smaller pulleys, headers, and oil pump gears. Now, I’m just waiting for the tuning to hit my 1000whp goal. I also had to throw on some Weld rims and beefy tires to keep it all grounded.
Currently pushing 705whp at 6,500 RPM, Preston’s RTR Mustang is well on its way to hitting the 1000whp mark he’s aiming for. But while building his dream car, Preston has also found a new community in Selfvation—one that offered a fresh perspective from his past experiences.

Q: You mentioned you were previously involved in the “takeover” scene. How did you transition to Selfvation?
Preston: I come from that darker side of the car community, but I wanted to get out of it. So, I showed up to one of your meets, not really sure what to expect. What I found was a community that didn’t judge my past but welcomed me with open arms and gave me solid advice on building my car. That was refreshing, so I decided to stick around.
Q: Has being part of Selfvation influenced your outlook?
Preston: Absolutely. It’s had a huge positive impact on my mental health and has made me look forward to car meets again. Just knowing there’s a community that’s open-minded and supportive makes a big difference.
One of his favorite parts of owning the RTR Mustang is sharing it with others. For Preston, car meets are about more than horsepower or performance specs; they’re about connection.
Q: Any favorite memories with your RTR Mustang at Selfvation meets?
Preston: Tons! People love the RTR, and I enjoy letting anyone who’s interested check it out. It’s a car made for sharing with the public, if you will.
Preston’s love for cars goes back to childhood, fueled by an endless curiosity for speed and customization.
Q: Where did your passion for cars start?
Preston: I’ve always loved cars, even as a kid—just didn’t always have the money for it. I was racing anything with four wheels when I was young. It’s been in my blood forever.
For Preston, the RTR Mustang represents something bigger than a vehicle; it’s a piece of the dream.

Q: What does the RTR Mustang represent to you?
Preston: To me, RTR is all about the American dream. Buy an American V8, and if you want, go drift it. You can’t live your whole life on the sidelines; you’ve got to make your own path.
His journey with the RTR is far from over, but he already has ideas for what’s next—a boosted Dodge Viper GTS.
Q: Do you have plans for another build after the Mustang?
Preston: Absolutely. Once I finish the Mustang, I want to work on a boosted Viper GTS. I just haven’t decided on which generation yet.
Preston’s journey has taught him that passion is what truly connects people in the car community.
Q: Any advice for new members of Selfvation or other enthusiasts?
Preston: You don’t have to have the fastest or nicest car to fit in. Just come in whatever makes you happy—your passion is what draws the crowds. And drive safe, because these cars are fast as hell!

His journey in the car scene goes way back, including founding “Greenville Underground” with close friends when he first got into cars in South Carolina.
Q: Any fun facts about your journey in the car community?
Preston: Fun fact: me and a good group of friends started Greenville Underground when I first got into cars here in SC. We might have been a bit crazy, but it was the best group of guys you could ask for at the time, and I hope they’re all doing great in life.
For Preston, being a part of Selfvation is about more than just cars—it’s about building connections and respecting others.
Q: What does being part of Selfvation mean to you?
Preston: It means anyone is welcome—any background, any build. Show respect, and you’ll get respect in return, plus some good friends along the way.

Preston’s story is a reminder that car culture is more than just builds; it’s about finding a place to belong and sharing a passion. Stay tuned for more interviews with Selfvation members and their unique builds!
